Ingleborough Caves

Ingleborough Cave has been welcoming visitors for over 170 years. Unearthed in 1837, after floods demolished the calcite dams which held within its walls water that had submerged te caves for many years. Beautifully cascading Stalagmites and stalactites, which are believed to be around 350 million years old are really worth a closer look. The cave is fully floodlit and has sound, near flat terrain making it freindly for wheelchairs if necessary.

Often described as one of the few natural wonders of this gracious land, the formations of stalagmites and stalactites, depicted in such glorious scenery, really makes Ingleborough cave a must see for all the family. A concrete pathway makes the experience easy and comfortable, as you travel over half a kilometre taking in the magnificant spectacles on offer.

An experienced guide is on hand to help you through your journey as you learn the quirky and interesting facts about each section of the cave, and get a real-life close-up of the beautiful markings found throughout the cave. The Cave was once the outflow for the streams that flow through the world-famous 17 km Gaping Gill cave system, but it has long been abandoned by the main stream, allowing it to be explored safely by visitors.

At the end of the path, the cave will be seen disappearing into the distance. Even after all this time, explorations in the far extremities of the system continue to unravel the secrets of this hidden world. A great adventure for all the family and suitable for anyone.
