Wookey Hole, the world's oldest tourist attraction, is so much more than just a caving experience. Packed full of activities suited fro kids of all ages, there is so lots to enjoy and explore including a museum, Dinosaur Valley, a Mirror Maze and the legend of the Wookey Witch!!
Caves - The caves were formed millions of years ago and have inhabited human life for over 50,000 years. Learn how the cavemen hunting bears and rhinos lived their lives in the caves, and explore the many caverns in this underground world full of adventure! Contained within the cave is the Witch's Parlour and the Witches Kitchen.
Witch of Wookey - The legend has it that during the Dark Ages an old woman who kept a dog and some goats lived alone in the caves. Everything that went wrong in the village was blamed on her. The local people believed she was a witch who cast spells and caused misfortunes. An Abbot nearby came and threw holy water over the witch who turned to stone! To this very day the stone stands as a frozen figure and is well worth a look!!
Victorian Arcade - Wookey Hole has the biggest collection of original Edwardian Penny Arcade machines in the country, and visitors can play them with real old pennies! Simply change your money at the kiosk, and you'll be provided with a pocketful of pre-decimalisation pennies to use on any of the machines.
Wookey Museum - The Wookey Hole Caves site has provided rich pickings for archaeologists and anthropologists over the years, and several exciting excavations have been undertaken. In 1912 an archaeologist Herbert Balch found the almost complete skeleton of an old woman, the remains of some goats, a dagger, some household items and a polished alabaster ball among Iron Age remains.
Dinosaur Valley - Valley of the dinosaurs, featuring over 20 life-size dinosaurs ranging from the terrible child eating Tyrannosaurus Rex to the vegetarian Stegasaurus. Step back in time as you wander through the fascinating prehistoric landscape inhabited by these amazing noisy creatures.
Mirror Maze - The Magical Mirror Maze is a modern version of the old mirror show that occasionally accompanied travelling fairs. Some are trick mirrors allowing fleeting glimpses of a wizard, who was trapped over a thousand years ago by the evil wookey witch.
