
Cheddar Caves
A great treat for all the family is to be had at cheddar caves, home to Britain's oldest complete skeleton which is now world-renowned. The Cheddar Man, an amazing 9000 years old, was discovered in Gough's cave a popular part of the underground adventure. Walk through the cathedral like stalagmites and cascade down into the abyss. Not only great fun, but also a great opportinity for the kids to experience the life and times of stone age survivors. A truly fascinating experience not to be missed. The Cheddar caves are also home to Britains largest Gorge, which as well as he cave provides a great educational expereince. You will embark on a 3-mile walk through the picturesque gorge, through the lands owned by the National Trust. The Gorge covers a full 300 acre site and is a beautiful spectical not to be missed


Gough's Cave: The largest show cave in all Cheddar caves is the Gough Cave, home to the Cheddar Man. The world famous Cheddar man sits proudly within the walls of the cave, and has been dated to be around 9000 years old. Experience the conditions of Stone Age life as you make your way down to the Diamond Chamber. The Cave is so called Gough's cave after the man who discovered it in 1890, a Richard Gough. The Gough is also home to a 1 million year old river bed, a home to some our stone-aged ancestors.

From the fascinating to the fantastical as you embark on a fairytale adventure in the Crystal Quest. You must be brave and help Princess Astoril defeat the evil Mordon and free the crystal of light. A magical expereince that is definately one for the kids to enjoy, sees you embark on a walk through a fantastical land full of wizards, fairies, goblins and even a fire breathing dragon!!
There is also a chance to take in the sights of the beautiful surrounding area. Pavey's Lookout Tower is a perfect opportunity for a picture and nearby towns such as Exmoor and Mendip Hills can be seen on a clear day!

Many other aspects of this magnificant setting are also explored including the intrepid Jacob's Ladder and Cox's Cave which was discovered in 1837 by local mill owner George Cox. yet there are also many things to do above ground level as well, providing different and exciting challenges.
RockSport
RockSport is a popular attraction at Cheddar caves, as you are given the chance to test your nerves. You can either climb the 50 foot gorge, or if you're feeling brave, why not abseil down it? A great adventure under qualified and experienced staff who help you through every step of the way. There is also a chance to learn the art of caving in the wild adventure cave. Again under specialised supervision,you can try your hand at modern day caving, whilst trying to appreciate the trials of our ancestors. A truly amazing experience not to be missed. Eating Facalities - Enjoy a cream tea at the Cafe-Bar which serves a array of refreshments and freshly made food and delicacies. Eat in the cafe and enjoy the magnificant views offered by the Gorge and its surroundings!
Prices - The Gorge Outdoors ticket offers only selected attractions, but a great idea if you are pushed for time. This ticket entitles you to Jacob's Ladder, Lookout Tower and the Gorge Walk. But we recommend the Explorer ticket,whcih allows you to see all of the caves and attractions.

Opening Times - The caves are open every day except Christmas Day
July - August 10am - 5:30pm September - June 10am - 5:00pm
It should be noted that the last admission time is 30 minutes before the listed closing times.
Getting There - The Cheddar Caves are located in Somerset, ust off of the A38. For more information, use the Google Map below to help plan your journey, justclick 'To here' type in your home address and Google will plana journey for you.
