 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield- East Sussex         
Everyone knows at least one date in English history – 1066, the year the invading Normans defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings. In fact the conflict took place some 7 miles north of Hastings, at a place then called Senlac. This attraction has great family activities including a kids playground as well as exhibitions to take part in.

Dover Castle and the Secret Wartime Tunnels - Kent      
No fortress in England boasts a longer history than Dover Castle. Commanding the shortest sea crossing between England and the continent, the site has served as a vital strategic centre since Roman times.  Lullingstone Roman Villa -  Kent     
A most exciting archaeological find. The villa was built c. AD 75, and extended several times during 300 years of Roman occupation: it includes a room decorated with Christian symbols, among the earliest evidence for Christianity in Britain.

Pevensey Castle - East Sussex   
With a history stretching back over 16 centuries, Pevensey Castle chronicles more graphically than any other fortress the story of Britain’s south coast defences. Beginning in the 4th century as one of the last and strongest of the Roman ‘Saxon Shore’ forts – two-thirds of whose towered walls still stand – it was the landing place of William the Conqueror’s army in 1066.
