BodyBoarding

Bodyboarding is a different type of surfing, except you don't stand up to ride the waves, instead you lay stomach flat and hold on for dear life! Nothing beats splashing about inthe sea all day and although at first this may be a tricky sport, you'll soon get the hang of it. And whilst you're learning, you'll still be having fun as the wipe outs provide half the enjoyment of this great family sport.

Also known as 'boogie-boarding', the sport involves trying to catch waves whilst lying flat on a foam and plastic baord that is shorter than a traditional surf board. The only requirement for this sport is that you are able to swim, but apart from that there is nothing stopping anyone of any age giving it a go!  It is a really easy sport to learn and takes no more than a few hours to grasp the basics and once you've mastered the basic technique, there's no looking back.

The key to success lies in your position and how you allocate your body weight in relation to the board. Once you have done this, all you do is paddle to the shore in advance of the wave, allowing yourself to be swept forwards. Once you've mastered this nothing will match the thrill of succesfully rifding the wave home!

It is a fairly new sport in the UK and as a result, there are very few clubs or training courses available for you to learn. However, the Rob Barber School in Cornwall is one of the finest in the world. Rob and his team of coaches provide the best in terms of facilities with the latest boards on offer. The team are vstly eperienced in the sport and are on hand to help you through every step of the way. Check out the Rob Barber School here for more details.

Then once you've been tought how to ride the waves there's nothing stopping you! It is then a sport you cn take with you all over the world and try any time you are in the sea. Popular destinations for any budding bodyboarder, is the Tolcrane beach in Newquay or the Porth Neigwl beach in Wales.
