The National Gallery, London houses one of the greatest collections of Western European painting in the world. These pictures belong to the public and entrance to see them is free. From September, every Sunday is Family Sunday at the National Gallery. Come and join in for themed activities created especially for families to enjoy and learn together. There is no need to book for any of these workshops, but places are limited and allocated on arrival. Children must be accompanied to all events. Tate Modern is the national gallery of international modern art. Located in London, it is one of the family of four Tate galleries which display selections from the Tate Collection. The Collection comprises the national collection of British art from the year 1500 to the present day, and of international modern art. The other three galleries are Tate Britain, also in London, Tate Liverpool, in the north-west, and Tate St Ives, in Cornwall, in the south-west.
There is a wide range of talks, lectures, free and paid-for gallery tours, symposia, seminars, courses and workshops, as well as film, music, performance, schools, family and community programmes. The Victoria and Albert Museum, located in London has lots of exciting events and activities for families every holiday and many weekends. Activities are free and most do not need to be booked, which means you can stay for as long or as short a time as you like. Family Activities including art and craft workshops take place every Saturday and Sunday and every weekday during school holidays. Why not join in with the fun and relaxing workshops where you can try your hand at a variety of art and craft activities using exciting materials like funky foam, glitter, fabric, sequins and bright paint! The informal family workshops cover all sorts of arty stuff like painting, sculpting with clay, printing, collage, jewellery, masks, puppets and peg dolls. You will be sure of a warm welcome by the friendly museum staff.
Family activities are free of charge and are usually offered on a drop-in basis every Saturday and Sunday from 1.00 – 4.00pm. During school holidays the BMAG run activities on weekdays from 11.00 – 4.00pm.
