Jet-Skiing

A Jet-Ski is a cross between a motorbike and a boat and is a great way to explore coastal areas and lakes. Jet-skis are an irresistible way to explore the vast waterway systems and provide a buzz and sense of enjoyment like no other.  It might ruin the peace and quiet for the people on shore but for the riders it is fun all the way!

Although they look simple to ride, jet-skis can be dangerous to ride, so its important to know how to ride them safely. Wearing a life jacket is as important as wearing a helmet if you are on a motorbike and it is important to stay well clear of other carft to avoid colliisions. Each body of water where you use the jet-ski will have its own rules and regulations for you to adhere to so make sure you are aware of them before hitting the water.

Most jet skis are designed for two people, but some cater for up to 4 people - ideal for the family. There are even some inflatable battery-powered models available for children so even the kids can give the riding a go!

The Royal Yatching association (RYA) accredits courses in driving jet-skis, and proof of having take this is starting to be required by most harbours before you can rent a vehicle. The course can be taken by anyone over the age of 12 and teaches low and high speed riding skills, safety advice and orientation at sea. For more information about the course and about jet-skis in general, visit the RYA website, by clicking here.
