Flying a kite can be a very exciting and invigorating activity and is particularly appealing for the younger children. Our blustery climate is suited for flying kites and it is a hobby that costs next to nothing - or can cost a lot if you choose a stunt model controlled by a few lines. Alternativley, to add to the fun of the experience, you could make your own kite using paper and a lightweight string.

Don't use anything metallic in your design as electricity can build up and be conducted by the line! The best place to fly a kite is on a hill or on a beach and preferably a quiet one so that your line doesn't get tangled with other kites. Some kites are so small that they are worth taking with you eve for a bike ride as you never know when you find the perfect spot for a flight!

If however, you don't fancy making your own kite, and want a kite already made for a great price, then Active Toys have the answer with a wide range of kites for you to choose from starting from as little as £8.99. Click here to visit the Active Toys website.

Kite groups - If you want to take your enthusiasm for kiting to the next level, you can join a kite gorup who come togther to fly kites and offer advice to each other. The Kite Society of Great Briatin can help you find a group and also provides a calender of kiting events. The Society also provides useful tips and advice on how to fly your kite as well as some important legisaltion that may affect you. Click here to find out more.
