Rock Climbing

You need a certain amount of endurance, strength and skill, but this depends on the level of climb you opt for. It's an activity that can be adapted to suit people of all ages and abilities.

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) has a starting out guide that includes advice on the basics needed for rock climbing, with help and advice on how to do it your own way. Many Rock climbers also start by experimenting on indoor arenas and once the basics have been mastered, they move onto greater heights. Depending on where you go, and the weather conditions, you need a range of equipment to assit your climb. Easy climbs require little more than robust footwear, but for more challenging adventures, you will require more extensive protection including a helmet, harnesses, ropes and survival kits.

Once you've reached a certain level, and feel confident enough with your climbing ability, you can then go all over the world, with clubs and holidays catering for this great family challenge.
