Surfing

Surfing - It not only feels cool, it is cool! Catching the waves can be the best feeling in the world, beaten only by the feeling you get when you successfully ride it home to the shore. Anyone can surf - there are no limits! All you need is balance, patience and the strength of character to try and try again, beacuse we can guarantee you, you won't be successful every time. There are so many surf schools throughout the UK offering lessons for beginners above the age of 8, right through to adults trying to surf and there's nothing like teaching an old dog a new trick!
The only real requirement is the ability to swim and all you do is show up to your centre ready and wiling to give it a go - all equipment is included in the price! After a few lessons from a professional you might decide to continue yourself in the long run as it is an activity to enjoy whatever age you may be and investment in your own surf board and equipment may save money compared to hiring them. Tiki Surf has a great range of equipment for you to choose from. Click here for more information.

Other than the board and some lessons, surfing is an incredibly cheap activity - after all catching waves is free! For budding surfers there are 3 key rules to adhere to if you don't want to annoy the rest of the surfing community:
- The first is not to 'drop in' which means take the place of another surfer who has lined up a wave.
- Always look where you're going. This may seem easy but it is just as easy to become engrossed in looking behind you that you forget to check where you're going
- The most important rule is to always keep hold of your board, even when you fall off as a flailing board can be dangerous.
Once you've mastered these basic techniques the ocea is yours to conquer! Some of the best places to surf in the world is Devon and Cornwall. For more information regarding surfing, click here. Find BSA approved schools in your local area here.
