Below is a short guide as to what type of activity is suitable for three specific age ranges. We have categorised the children into three age groups and have suggested some activities that might be of interest for that particular age group. This is only a guide and is not to strictly followed but we do hope to have solved some posing dilemmas!

It can often be difficult to keep a 4 year old's attention for more than an hour, so if you have children of this age, it is a good idea to visit somewhere stimulating, preferably with some interaction so that they can keep their inquisitive little minds occupied. Obviously, activities at this age will be restricted so it can be difficult to find something to keep them occupied long enough, but there are many solutions right throughout the UK. A trip to the local Museum, or aquarium is a great place to start. Interactive displays and exhibitions as well as shows and presentations not only help to educate the kids, but also provide fun and entertainment. Watching a shark feed at an aquarium for example, provides fun for all and a walk around the Science Museum for example, provides hours and hours of top class entertainment.

Obviously, if you are looking for a quick fix, and an afternoon is what you need to fill, a trip to the local cinema or bowling alley is for you! The Odeon has great deals on Family Films at many times throughout the week and there are various bowling arenas that offer great deals on Family games. Alternatively, sporty youngsters may enjoy a game of Crazy Golf or a game of footy to one of the top-class Football establishments, although a kick-about down the local park with Dad is just as good! A cycling adventure is also a great alternative and apart from the outlay for the bike, it is a great activity to be enjoyed over and over again for FREE! If you are in London for the day, a trip to the Dungeons is a must for anyone and why not fill your day by visiting the many world-class theatres on show!

At this age, kids can often particpate in a lot more things compared to a younger child. They can now take part in more adventurous activities with many Go-Karting arenas offering facilities for children as young as 8. One particualr activity popular with kids of this age range is some form of Martial Arts, whether it be Karate or some other type, with each discipline offering something different. An introduction into some form of dance is also hugely popular and with classes running up and down the country, there are lots of opportunities to get involved! Alternatively, other sporty activities include Ice Skating, Skateboarding, Cycling and Inline Skating, which is more commonly known as rollerblading.

However, if intense sport is not for you, why not slow things down with a leisurely fishing trip at one of the UK's many fisheries. A race around a stately home Maze or a day flying a kite is the perfect treat for 8-10 year olds, whilst the more adventurour 11-12 year olds may enjoy an expedition through orienteering or a mountain bike ride through the many country lanes and mountanous terrain. Also, why not step up Crazy Goilf, and try out a driving range or a pitch and putt coursewhich can provide a great day of family entertainment!

This can often be the most challenging - finding an activity to keep a teenager occupied! However, there is simply loads of stuff to do! Not only is there the conventional trip to the theme parks that they always go on about - but there are many sports based activities for the whole family to try. Whether the kids are 12 or 18, there are bound to enjoy a trip paintballing, or a trip to the local Go-Karting Track where they can battle it out against friends as well as family and enjoy a rip-roaring adventure! Quad-biking is another alternative if they have tried go-karting or a membership to the Local Riley's club is a must for anyone this age. Whether Snooker or pool is your game, they ceratinly have something to make your experience that extra special.

The more adventurous teen may enjoy a once in a life time trip on hot-air balloon with many glorious places to see from a whole new perspective - although this can be expensive! Other adventurous activities include Surfing, White water Rafting or even Land Yachting. Also for aquatic adventurers, Body Boarding, Kayaking and Tubing are must do's! Of course for the non-aquatic lovers with an afternoon to kill, don't neglect a local cinema trip or a bowling alley!
